Parent Minute

I’m not lying to you—we ARE almost there.

Posted on 3/10/2017 by Greg Yoder
A lot of our kids are literal thinkers. One of my daughters, when she was four or five years old, didn’t want anything to do with a turtleneck shirt because of the negative word picture. As parents, we say things to our kids that make them question our integrity. For instance, when our kids ask, “When are we going to eat?” We respond, “In a few minutes.”  And 45 minutes goes by and still no lunch. Or, “Are we there yet?” “Yes, Kirk, we’re almost there,” even though there’s still an hour left in that six-hour trip. With these little tikes, we need to give them an exact time frame: “We’ll be there in the amount of time it takes us to go to grandma’s house twice.” If you do, you’ll all be happier.
