No more shelter-in-place for me! I’m done!

Posted on 5/14/2020 by Greg Yoder

Our elderly parents are frustrated. They’re most at risk in this COVID-19 crisis. They feel imprisoned, isolated, and alone. When we do get together, the six-foot rule is painfully awkward. They haven’t hugged the grandkids in weeks. I don’t know about your parents, but mine are exasperated. They realize the seriousness of it, but they want to live their lives too. Each day is blessing. It comes with uncertainty. And who knows what tomorrow holds? What should we do? Honor our parents. If they want to hug the grandkids, let them. Now, if they live in a senior community that changes things. Help them realize this too shall pass and find fun ways to be together. Neighborhood parades, sidewalk happy birthday wishes, and notes can go a long way.
