The Apostle Paul wrote a lot of letters. Most the ones that were put into the Bible were letters written to entire churches, but some were letters written to individuals. One of the individuals Paul wrote to was a young Pastor named Timothy. Now, Tim was having some troubles getting his new church off the ground and Paul had a lot of wisdom on a lot of different issues that Tim was facing--like how to pick deacons and how to treat widows, how people should dress and what should happen in a worship service. Take a look at what Paul had to say to Tim about how people should treat their families:
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Wow, pretty strong words there. Do you think they might apply even to people who are doing good things
like, say running for mayor? And how could they apply to kids like you, even if you don't have a spouse and kids yet? Well, what can you "provide" for your family? Maybe helping with chores, maybe taking care of a younger brother or sister when mom and dad are busy, maybe just a hug and a word of encouragement to you parents or siblings. It might mean you have to sacrifice something really important, but if someone in your family has a need, think and pray about what you can "provide", and then go for it!
