England and Wales no longer majority Christian
It’s not surprising that much of the modern world is turning its back on Christianity. Recent reports indicate unless something significant happens, many of these once majority Christian nations will quickly become Christian minority nations in just a few years. For Keys for Kids Ministries, it means the need to share Christ with kids, teens, and families is essential to seeing this trend change. And, we can’t act alone.
In September, Pew Research reported that Christians accounted for 64% of the population in the United States. That’s down from 90% in the 1990s. And the rate is dropping significantly each year. Many believe unless the Holy Spirit intervenes and Christians make evangelism a priority, Christians will account for less than half of the population by 2050, according to Pew Research.
The same trend has already happened in Europe. The most recent census in Britain indicated that Christians in England and Wales dropped below 50% for the first time. That’s in a region of the world where the nation has an established church.
Why is this happening? There are probably many reasons, but in my opinion, wealth is at the root of it. There was a reason why Jesus said it was easier to put a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Our bank accounts, houses, playthings in our garages, and university degrees have become idols in our lives. WE have become our own gods, replacing Jesus Christ as our LORD and Savior.
It’s easy to say Jesus is my Savior. It’s quite another thing to say Jesus my LORD of ALL. When the wealth of the world becomes our focus, it gets in the way of our relationship with Christ. That focus also becomes an example to our kids. The bottom line is it only takes a generation to lose a generation. We as parents and grandparents have a responsibility to keep the idols cast out.
This is just one of the reasons why Keys for Kids Ministries is attempting to provide the tools needed to help families make God the LORD of our lives. I’m hoping the Holy Spirit makes families aware of our idolatry and turn back to the LORD. Making God top priority, not jobs, families, wealth, or anything else that takes priority over Him, is the only way out of this spiraling godlessness. As we make God our Savior and LORD, we can see this happen one kid, one teen, and one family at a time.
